Margaret Nowaczyk & Anthony Shockney
Our Story
Tony and I met in 2004 when I became a volunteer at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department. From the beginning we hit it off. Tony was always there to make me laugh. Shortly after meeting we began to spend time together away from the Fire Department. We would regularly go to the movies and to dinners. We never considered those dates but simply a way to spend more time together. Tony and I got along great, he always knew how to make me laugh but never forgot when to be serious. I found myself missing him when we were not together and I am sure Tony felt the same way ;)
March 11th 2006- was just going to be another movie night. The weather that day was unusually beautiful for "early spring" and Tony suggested going to the Inner Harbor instead of the movies. We toured the USS Constellation and walked around the entire Harbor. It was then when Tony held my hand for the first time and it felt like a real date. Shortly after we started spending more and more time together we made our relationship official. This is when the real adventure began. Tony and I spent most of our free time together (I was still at UMBC finishing my degree). We often went away on mini day-trips or weekend get aways. Tony, however, valued his alone time. He needed his "Rocco" time and went out with the boys, a lot. This allowed me to truly enjoy my college life to the fullest! We both discovered that we enjoyed many of the same things and loved to share our lives together. I knew early that I love Tony. He on the other hand took his time, it was well worth it though and made the moment much more special. So the time flew by, next thing we know I'm preparing to graduate UMBC with my Paramedic degree. It was a long road but I could not have done it without Tony. He believed in me more than I believed in myself. Graduation came and went and the job search began. I have been going through the process of applying to Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue since about April. During this process Tony and I were also searching for the perfect home for us. It was a miracle when we finally found it- our home now. We were a bit nervous about moving out to West Virginia but all the worries were erased when I received the call about my Frederick County job during our final walk through in our "potential" new home. It was then when we knew that we would be okay. This is how we got where we are now. We live in Charles Town, WV and love it.
Our Wedding
I always knew we'd get married but I'm not sure if Tony did. We both, however, always agreed that we wanted a small, intimate wedding. We both love the tropics and so picking a destination wedding always felt right. Combing the idea of a small, relaxed, intimate wedding with a tropical location describes the pperfect wedding for us.
It could not have been done without Lisa Shockney. She is our travel agent (She owns Bay Winds Travel Agency) and has helped us enormously. It was thanks to her that we found the Riviera Maya location.
Once we picked the location and the resort (Aventura Spa Palace) the best part remained. This is the part that I will enjoy the most: the actual wedding decisions :)
Oh, the date!! March 11th, 2011. It will be out 5 year anniversary and exactly a year since Tony has proposed to me (at the Bavarian Inn). It seems only natural (well, this way Tony cant EVER forget the date) to have our wedding at this significant date.
Our Reception
As soon as we figure out the details, I will write a little about it.
